Before diving into details about how to set up

There are many different ways to configure a developer environment for XCSoar. You can use at least two OS (Windows and Linux), and several different editors and tools to get the job done. The only real requirement is a gcc compiler.
That said, the links below describe some possible configurations. You can choose whatever you are comfortable with.
